The good and the bad

The Tudors
Why am I still watching this? Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer), does look like a young Vivienne Leigh, but the acting’s still more Scarlett than Blanche and the dialogue is getting worse.
Even the subtitles are funny when they’re supposed to be serious. “My God!”
I’m still liking Sam Neill and Maria Doyle Kennedy though and I’ve waited this long for a beheading, so I can’t say “no more!” just yet.

Californication
I’ve just realised, I’ve not wanted to see two characters work it out so badly, for years.
Who wouldn’t want Hank (Duchovny) on their arm though? The dialogue is a little too smart and funny to be natural, but Duchovny’s so charming, you wouldn’t notice and I’m just a sucker for smart dialogue no matter how unnatural, things are just better in a world where everyone is quickly funny and unreserved. Californication feels 1990s in a good, grunge way that’s somehow comforting – no terrorism here folks, just an old fashioned love story in LA.
