No No No. It’s Gardener’s World, not Bickering-r-us

Gardener’s World is back, 2/23 my Sky+ informs me, which is a brilliant feeling – 23 weeks of warm-ish weather for all.

But wait, Toby Buckland and Alys Fowler have started a worrying new mock fighting angle between the radishes and roses, and it’s manure.

I can put up with a lot of disfunctional personality from my garden presenters, but this almost sibling-like “I’ve had to clean up twice” lark is going too far. Monty and Carol would never scrap in this faux-cutesy style, it’s just not good. I don’t mind some stilted conversation in the borders (could do with less of Joe Swift impersonating Jamie Oliver though), but thinking about it now, even last season Toby B’s roll your eyes/groan/ugh humour was there to see, but Alys still had some dignity. Maybe the new garden was the last straw, or no, I think it’s the Hot or Not board.

Perhaps Toby and Alys actually hate each other? 21 weeks to find out I guess. Can’t we have Carol for lead presenter?

Tina Fey glasses

Desperate Housewives

ABC

Thank God Dana Delaney has joined the cast. She’s the perfect bitch-next-door in Tina Fey glasses, it’s a shame she didn’t take the role of Bree she was offered when the show started.  What’s old? Carlos is still blind, making Gabby really unlikeable as she’s providing sub-standard care. The Scavo’s are having some kind of boring jealousy attack -fest with Rick, who I gather flirted with Lynette last season. I want to call him Tres, but no, Orson (Kyle McLachlan) is on thin ice after confessing he was the hit and runner who gave Mike the unstoppable pain that caused Mike to start using drugs. DH needs Kyle, so let’s hope the neighbours can overlook this little hiccup.

Gardener’s World

Sorry, Tony Buckland is not going to win me over by describing tomatoes as tequlia stingers or whatever.  He’s already tidying up Berryfields in a very 1980’s fashion. Can Carol have her own spin off please?

Earth: The Climate Wars

This is the kind of show you fall asleep in, but really enjoy the second time around. Kind of like Britain From Above. This is important viewing considering Guillermots are resorting to infanticide.

Other stuff

Have you missed the Palin/Clinton opening to the latest Saturday Night Live season?

Tina Fey is brilliant, how long must we wait for Season two of 30 Rock? Coming this month is Breaking Bad, starting 28 Sept on FX and Heroes is back soon on BBC2 too.

Ugly Betty

Gene Simmons is Amanda’s father? Yep, that’s credible.

Desperate autumn

Well things are looking up. Finally some American TV is coming back onto our screens. Not the good stuff yet, but it’s a start and I’ll be watching, with far too high hopes; Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives, maybe even Strictly come dancing. Later this season is season three of Heroes too..

In the meantime, at least we have Mutual Friends.

Who would have envisaged Gloucestershire old spot piglets in catalogue clothes on a runway, on an average Tuesday night? That’s the good thing about Mutual Friends, it’s OTT and so much better for it. Written by Richard Pinto and Anil Gupta (The Kumars At No 42, Goodness, Gracious Me), you’ll know 60% of the cast, and yes Keeley Hawes does look like Keira Knightley, doesn’t she? Pimms anyone?

Carol Klein has been overlooked for the main presenter role – her latest interview has confirmed she was never asked and not invited to apply for the role, which is shameful.
