Show business

So Tom has won Strictly Come Dancing 2008.

I like Tom, and his show dance was more showy and original than Rachel’s, or for that matter Lisa and Brendan’s slightly futuristic offering. Just as well, as apart from doing a good Samba he really didn’t have Rachels technical skill or Lisa’s glamour (or perfect 40 scores, she was my favourite by far). Infact at the end all the crying from Camilla over winning the title seemed a bit x-factor. Living the dream, ugh.

Finally – is there no more It Takes Two? When will we get to see Claudia Winkleman again? The past winners dance was a great idea, wasn’t it? Why did James and Ola do a cha cha out of theĀ  blue? Will they bother including older men who will go down the Sergeant route next year? Will Brian Fortuna be back – why isn’t he dancing in the States version? When does the Apprentice start?

Imagine Austin tapping into a traumatic childhood experience

I can’t really see Austin Healy, guns or not (he’s still shortish), reflecting on past turmoil to find an honesty in his next American Smooth or Salsa for Strictly Come Dancing.

This week’s Imagine…Dangerous Liasions focussed on Akram Khan teaching Juliette Binoche to dance. Instead of the chummy practice footage we’re used to from ~It takes two, we’ve got an acting tutor, cringe making attempts at forging a relationship, cool dancing and suddenly tension. Which is completely glossed over – shooting forward to final preparations for their live shows, we don’t get a straight answer on what happened and what their final performances even mean to Akram and Juliette.

Are we going to be sick of Strictly by Christmas? Or will it get even better? I’ve been watching the shows, yes even bearing Brucie’s double entendre and satire, and It takes two, as Claudia is worth watching especially with live bloopers from Ian and Jodie on the couch, “I hope she produces her breast”

The girls and boys are finally dancing together this weekend – I predict Andrew Castle or Heather Small are off.

Only 3 hours til the Emmys

Fingers crossed the Colbert Report wins. As much as I love Tina Fey – SNL isn’t better than Colbert.

Strictly Come Dancing

So Strictly Come Dancing is back. I have to warn you, any review I do is based on watching the show on Sky+. I fast forward through all of Bruce’s jokes, and all of the post-dance conversation/puffing with Tess.

So Phil Daniels is out in week one. Fair enough, his waltz wasn’t graceful, but it wasn’t awful either. I blame the chinchilla stole Flavia was wearing on the Saturday show.

Let’s hope the class commentary – “That dancing was common”, “You’re a cheeky chappy”, stops with Daniels as it was embarassing!

Earth: The Climate Wars

This series concluded tonight and if you’ve seen none of the three parter, you still have 7 days to watch the entire series on BBC iplayer.

Frankly disarming stuff – the climate is changing, and could change rapidly. It’s hard to watch this show without day dreaming about how you’d survive the chaos a sudden shift in temperature change would have, let alone how the world is going to deal with the inevitable changes coming from a gradual warming.

At the end of the series Dr Iain Stewart said the experts he’d spoken to were scared. How could we not be too? What he’s learnt is action is needed now. So, maybe we should all be joining the Friends of the Earth or the Campaign for Climate Change.
